The "Desert King" fig tree is highly regarded in the Pacific Northwest for its consistent yields of large figs with dark green skin and pink flesh. The tree produces a single crop each year in August, which develops on the previous season's growth, making it important to limit pruning to less than half of that growth. In hot climates, the early "breba" crop may begin to ripen in mid-June, but it can be less flavorful.
